Privacy Policy

1. Overview
UnitCoreTools is designed as a privacy-first utility. Our core philosophy is simple: what you do on our tools should generally stay on your device.
Most calculations, conversions, and interactions on UnitCoreTools occur locally within your web browser. However, we offer optional features (such as "Share List") that require limited data transmission to our servers to function. We do not create user profiles, do not sell data to advertisers, and do not track your behavior across the web.
2. Information Collection and Usage
A. Standard Usage (Local Processing)
When you use our tools for standard conversions (e.g., entering numbers, formatting text), that data is processed locally on your device using JavaScript.
- We do not transmit this input data to our servers.
- We do not store this input data.
- We cannot see what you are typing or calculating.
B. Voluntary Data Submission (Short URLs)
If you choose to use our "Share List" or "Get Link" feature, you voluntarily transmit the data contained in that specific conversion list (e.g., unit types, input values, and settings) to our backend.
- Purpose: We process this data solely to generate a unique short link that allows others to view your specific list configuration.
- Data Retention: This data is stored temporarily. We enforce a Time-To-Live (TTL) of 30 days, after which the data and the short link are permanently and automatically deleted from our systems.
- Public Access: Short URLs are not password-protected. Anyone who possesses the short link can access the conversion list data associated with it.
C. Server Logs and Technical Data
Like almost every website on the internet, our hosting infrastructure automatically logs standard technical information when your browser requests a page. This is necessary for security, performance monitoring, and preventing abuse (such as DDoS attacks).
This automatically collected data may include:
- Internet Protocol (IP) address.
- Browser type and version.
- Device type (e.g., mobile vs. desktop).
- Time and date of visit.
- Referring website (the page that linked you to us).
How we use this data:
- To deliver the website content to your device.
- To monitor the health and stability of our servers.
- To detect and prevent security threats.
We do not link this technical data to specific user identities or build personal profiles.
D. Chrome Extension Usage
If you use the UnitCoreTools Chrome Extension:
- Offline Functionality: The extension is designed to function entirely offline. Your calculations and conversions happen locally on your device and are not sent to our servers.
- Usage Ping: When you open the extension, it sends a single, minimal network request (a
"ping") to our backend.
- Purpose: This allows us to count aggregate usage statistics (e.g., "How many times was the extension opened today?") to help us improve the product.
- Data: This ping contains standard technical metadata (IP address, User Agent) but does not contain any of your input data, calculations, or browsing history.
3. Cookies and Local Storage
A. No Tracking Cookies
We do not use cookies for advertising, retargeting, or third-party behavioral tracking.
B. Local Storage
We may use standard browser features like Local Storage or Session Storage to improve your experience (e.g., remembering your "Dark Mode" preference or the last unit you selected).
- This data is stored on your device, not on our servers.
- You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser cache.
4. Service Providers and Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or share your information with advertisers or data brokers. However, we engage trusted third-party infrastructure providers to host the website and ensure it runs securely.
Infrastructure Provider: Google Cloud Platform
We host UnitCoreTools on Google Cloud Run, a service provided by Google LLC.
- Role: Google processes technical data (such as your IP address and request metadata) strictly to deliver the website to your device and ensure the security of the connection.
- Data Location: Data is processed in Google Cloud data centers. While we select specific regions for hosting, Google's network is global.
- Privacy: Google Cloud Platform adheres to strict security and privacy standards. You can read more in Google's Cloud Privacy Notice.
5. Children's Privacy
UnitCoreTools is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately.
6. Data Security
For standard usage and Chrome Extension usage, our tools run locally, meaning your input data never leaves your device.
For data stored via the Short URL feature, we rely on Google Cloud's industry-standard security measures (including encryption at rest and in transit via HTTPS/TLS) to protect your data. However, please be aware that no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.
7. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey, United States, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our technology or legal requirements.
We will notify you of any significant changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy.
Continued use of UnitCoreTools after any changes indicates your acceptance of the new policy.
